Flexible Spending Account

Administered by Trion

Flexible Spending Accounts allow you to use tax-free earnings to pay for health care and dependent care expenses.

Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

If you are enrolled in the Baptist Easley Health Savings Account medical plan and are eligible for benefits under a Health Savings Account (HSA), you may not enroll in this benefit. However, you may be eligible for a Limited Purpose FSA.

The Health Care FSA is a reimbursement account (for you and your eligible dependents) that allows you to use pretax dollars for out-of-pocket medical, dental and vision expenses. Eligible expenses include deductibles, coinsurance and copayments.

  • You do not have to participate in Baptist Easley’s medical, dental or vision plans to participate.
  • Your election is deducted from your paycheck in equal amounts.
  • Election changes can be made only for a qualifying event such as marriage, divorce, birth, adoption and death within 30 days of the event.
  • The maximum plan year contribution is $2,500.
  • You can be reimbursed for claims incurred between January 1, 2016 and March 15, 2017.
  • All claims must be filed by March 31, 2017.
  • “Use It or Lose It” Rule: Unused balances do not rollover from year to year.
  • Money in the Health Care FSA cannot be transferred to the Dependent Care FSA or vice versa.
  • Get reimbursed by submitting a paper claim or using your Benny® Debit Card.

Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
If you are enrolled in a high-deductible health plan, such as the Baptist Easley Health Savings Account medical plan, and you are eligible for a Health Savings Account, your Health Care FSA is limited to eligible dental and vision expenses only and preventive services in your high-deductible health plan.

  • For both the Health Care FSA and Limited Purpose FSA, over-the-counter drugs without a prescription are not reimbursable, except for insulin. Reimbursement only is available by using a paper claim with your receipts.

Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
The Dependent Care FSA will provide reimbursement for day care or after school care for children under age 13 or care for a dependent parent incapable of self-care (provided the employee claims the parent as a tax deduction).

  • Your election is deducted from your paycheck in equal amounts.
  • Election changes can be made only for a qualifying event such as marriage, divorce, birth, adoption and death within 30 days of the event.
  • The maximum plan year contribution is $5,000.
  • “Use It or Lose It” Rule: Unused balances do not rollover from year to year.
  • Dependent Care Affidavit – automatic weekly reimbursement or submit a paper claim.
  • You can be reimbursed for expenses incurred between January 1, 2016 and March 15, 2017.
  • All claims must be filed by March 31, 2017.

Flex Debit Card – Benny® Debit Card
Visit www.EnrollOnline.com/PalmettoHealth to obtain up-to-date account balance information and to view or print your account statement.

  • Save your receipts. You always should retain Benny® Debit Card transaction receipts and documentation in case you are audited or asked to substantiate your claim.
  • The Benny® Debit Card can be used for copays, deductibles and coinsurance; however, in some cases you may need to substantiate your claims. Trion, the FSA administrator, will send you a letter requesting receipts and/or additional information if substantiation is required. It’s important to respond promptly since failure to do so can result in deactivation of your card. If your card is used for expenses deemed ineligible, you will be required to reimburse your accounts.
